Wow!
13-month-old babies have learned a lot over the past months, especially when it
comes to sleeping through the night. But babies are still learning the ropes –
and so are parents.
IN THIS ARTICLE:
You
may have a lot of questions, then, including, “How many hours a day should a
13-month-old sleep?”
Luckily,
we’re here to help.
A Sample 13-Month-Old’s Sleep Schedule:
We’re
only using these times as examples.
Your
baby’s unique, so instead of focusing on clock time when
sleep coaching, focus more on their wake windows –
the amount of time your baby is awake between naps or their last nap and
bedtime. – and their sleepy cues. These two signs help you understand and work
with their natural rhythms.

Q: How Many Total Hours Should a 13-Month-Old Sleep?
At
minimum you want your 11-month-old to sleep 12 hours and up to 15 hours in a
24-hour period.
Q: Can a 13-month-old baby sleep through the night?
Yes.
With proper sleep coaching and nourishment, most 13-month-olds sleep through
the night. For more information on sleep coaching, check out the Smart Sleep Coach by Pampers ™.
>Q: How much nighttime sleep for a 13-month-old?
Between
11-12 hours is a good goal for a 13-month-old’s night sleep.
Q: How much daytime sleep for a 13-month-old?
A
goal here is 2-3 hours split between 2 naps. Each nap should be at least an
hour.
Also,
note that some babies this age start to resist naps. This is a sign it’s time
to nap transition. For more on nap transitions, read our piece on the subject.
We break it all down for you.
Q: What is a 13-month-old’s wake window?
Most
13-month-olds can stay awake between 3 hours, 15 min and 4 hours between
daytime sleeps or their final nap and bedtime.
Q: Is there a 13-month-old regression?
Not
technically, though it’s normal for babies this age to start protesting certain
sleeps, typically in the afternoon or at bedtime. If your 13-month-old resists
their second nap, we recommend extending the length between morning and
afternoon nap to increase sleep drive.
Also,
now that your baby’s over 12 months, you can let them sleep with a stuffed
animal, blankie, or another comfort object.

on
why they happen and how to handle them.
